Assuming chrome: 1. open Options 2. search for "cookies" in the bar at the top 3. click "cookies and other site data" 4. click "see all site data and permissions" 5. in the new search bar type "mrredshark" and the cookies for this game should appear. 6. click the trash can icon and then accept.
You probably shouldn't have the game open while doing this, and once you're done it should be reset. If it still doesn't work afterwards you're on your own.

Note: When it says it will do a reset in the challenge, it does NOT give you the reset resources, had to learn this the hard way...
awesome game, had some really slow balancing at times but kept me entertained plenty
my total time played with offline time on is 27 days, i definitely played it more idle than it was meant to be played (most times doing other things)

To answer katakana1, hardened challenges mean that the challenges get harder to complete and does not change effect.
