sort: go backWhen the game first loads, the scaling is wrong. Click "expand" at the bottom left, then "shrink." If you can't click the "nice" button, click the game to make sure it's in focus and then hit "enter."
i am high and i like fantasy
I just want to ask, when you release it on STEAM is there going to be a way to transfer our progress from this version of the game to the STEAM version of the game?
developer response: Yes, absolutely. Continue to backup your save, and that backed up save file will be able to be loaded into Steam. :) You actually already can if you are in the Steam beta.
So.. I played bit enough to say something I think; perma upgrades motivates to try again, no restriction for rebirth is accessible, job and item(books, for now) unlocks for each class's progress is interesting. got hooked.
developer response: Thank you! Glad you had fun.
The Dev updates too often, patched the exploit I was using. I'm not used to a dev that uploads and then UPDATES????? their game.
Thanks though, seriously, for updating the game so often and quickly.
developer response: This gave me a good chuckle haha. It's been easy to keep the updates going as the community has been awesome at reporting issues they are finding. Thanks for the kind words!
Nice demo, definitely has potential. Got all achievements except for 100,000 clicks and the secret ones.
Squire's rare item drops should increase for harder enemies (e.g. 2 doses of potion from big goblin).
(Secret class) needs a perk to let you , maxing it out is annoying.
Also for (secret class), .
Future suggestions:
A mage class? (levels translate to active skill cooldown/energy recharge)
A merchant class? (levels increase the speed of auto-buying perks/shop items)
It's an island, so a fisherman class? (levels increase hunger regen/health regen/mana regen)
Looking forward to see what you come up with though! :)
developer response: Thank you! Appreciate the suggestions, I'll make some notes. :)
how to unlock
developer response: I'd take a look at Squire item drops... :)
Great game, loved all of it. I've spent the last two days hypergrinding this game and after unlocking everything (except the secret achievement Number go up, please help), I can say this game is absolutely fantastic. Great use of idle and RPG mechanics, blended into a beautiful experience. Wish there was more but alas a demo is a demo, but it's been instantly wishlisted on Steam!
My only real criticisms are with the Squire, as I do feel like this class is a lot more grindy than the other two classes (yet, to be fair, it's also the class I find more interesting). For example, there is no way to boost his xp gain which kinda sucks since I'm trying to get the max 183 stats. Also felt that some upgrades were meaningless, such as defense, since it was underwhelming late game. Having 100k defense against an attack that deals 100M is... nothing.
developer response: Thank you so much!
For Number Go Up - my hint is that it is obtained somewhere on the info screen, maybe somewhere where you can see a number literally go up?
For Squire - yes it suffers the most from end of content as that is where is gets most of its XP scaling from. More content will help with this! Also I completely hear you about Defense, I have actually already redesigned it in my local build, so expect something more beneficial from the stat long term. :) (And don't worry Thorns will still be good)
Also just to reiterate, more content is coming to the demo! It will be updated on all platforms when it is ready.
Enjoy the theme, UI and general gameplay loop, I only have 1 main issue/potential misunderstanding on my part, is there no way to gather rare drops with the tab being in the background?
developer response: Glad you're enjoying it!
No misunderstanding on your part - item drops for Squire don't happen while offline, which in turn for browser players, means they don't happen via Web AFK rewards (They are the same system). Item drops aren't currently tuned for offline in mind. That being said, I'll look into turning that on just for Web AFK rewards since that would make getting items a bit tedious if you are playing HFI in the browser. :)
Update - this is now implemented which means you can get item drops while AFK! (But not offline).
Really great game! I enjoyed playing it for the past week. Although it's just a demo, I think it has great potential. I have a few suggestions tho. First, it would be nice to have a button that can buy all the perks, especially later on in the game. Or a preset for perks so that for every rebirth the game can auto-assign those perk points. Second, there is a little bug for freezing the "rebirth point". I found it out in the very end of the demo. When calculating the amount of might/hardness/wisdom gained from rebirth, it seems like you add the XP (or something else I can't really tell) first, check for if the progress bar reached 100%, then subtract the excess if the amount exceeded the maximum. This caused me to have "-0.12% until next rebirth point" once, which is quite funny but no big deal. Also, maybe adding a feature for squire to increase attack speed (slightly, like 2x) would balance it out a bit from the other two, so that it can progress faster.
By the way, are you planning to make a mac version too? I'm not on windows system so I can't download it from itch, and if I loose the save on web I'll loose everything. But if you're not planning to, I'll try my best to keep my progress from being wiped on web.
Anyways, I look forward to future updates!
developer response: Thank you!
I'm happy to say that I am working on a solution for this particular issue with perks. Assigning perks every rebirth can get tedious and it'll only get worse as the game gets bigger, so I'm working on a system for this. :)
What is happening here is you are hitting the cap for "rebirth stat XP". The progress bar looks messy though and isn't properly handled, so I will look into fixing that.
Although I don't have any plans for it in the immediate future, attack speed is something I am able to tweak on the Squire. :)
You know, I've been getting this question a lot about MacOS. I have two obstacles right now. First is that I don't own a Mac, so I can't test a Mac build of HFI. I do have the capability to create a Mac build though. Second is time - if I support a Mac build that adds a lot of additional testing to my plate, and as a solo developer my time is really at a premium.
That being said, I won't promise anything right now but I'll continue to look into the possibilities of long-term support for a Mac download. I think what it's going to come down to is how stable is a Mac version right out the gate, and how much additional work and maintenance would it be to keep that platform going.
This game is right up my alley! There's plenty of variety. There's a sense of progress that isn't too fast or slow. There's a bit of strategy that goes into choosing skills or deciding what to work on. I have wishlisted on Steam and am looking forward to purchasing the full game when it's available.
developer response: Thank you I'm so glad you're enjoying it!
Hy, when using burning the midnught oil in auto mode, while the char sleeps it does no trigger the power
developer response: You are right that doesn't make sense. If you have infinite sleep why should you have to wait to finish sleeping? I'll fix that for the next patch so that when Burning the Midnight Oil is activated, you automatically stop sleeping. (This is now live!)
so wait we can backup our save, but there is no way to import the backup?
developer response: Not in the browser, no. The backup saves are loadable into the downloadable version on Itch though (if you're looking to continue but lost your browser save; works on Windows) or the Steam beta.
There's an incompatibility with save data being imported that only affects the browser version unfortunately. If that changes, I will update the game to allow browser imports.
well, first congrats! I love the game, but the only thing that turn me down, is the fact that we can only publish one book at a time and need to rebirth to publish again. In fact i'm at a stage, where i rebirth every 20 seconds now.. Except that, thank you very much for that quality time!
developer response: Thank you so much! Yes it's a bit rough I admit. I am working on a quality of life change regarding the "can only publish one edition of a book per rebirth" issue!
i love love loooooove the artstyle and the sound design!!!
developer response: Thank you! :D
I like it! I played it on itch awhile ago back when you had that game-breaking offline time bug, but with that fixed this is a much more interesting game. I wish there was more than the demo, because this scratches a number of small itches I have in just the right way. Do you have an ETA on a full release?
developer response: No ETA on a release, but the demo content is not over! There will be a substantial update to the demo coming before an Early Access release on Steam. :)
great game so far, eager to see more
developer response: Thanks! There will be more content coming to the demo.
I finished the game (as it is now) and have every achievement except for "You're pretty basic...", any hints?
developer response: Each class's first perk has the word "basic" in it. Hmm...
Great game, would love to see more. As of right now I find the researcher to be a bit teadious. The fact I have to respec every time I want to publish a new chapter in a book makes it very tedious and not feel worth it for the rewards. Also maby a loadoutsystem or a buy max that buys the upgrades you had last time would be great to minimize work on prestiges. Great content looking for more
developer response: Thanks for the feedback! Yes, for Researcher I am working on a "reset book" function so you can work on a new edition without having to rebirth every time. Nothing specific to announce about a loadout system, but I hear that feedback loud and clear and am investigating options. :)

Interesting start, looking forward to more. Minor suggestion but I would like to see shop items highlighted when you can afford them. Maybe dim the Buy button if you don't have enough gold.
developer response: Ooh I like this idea - I'll put it in my notes. (This was implemented btw)
