i like the tradeoff between trying to optimize my layout and just collecting the best i have so far. the visual design is super appealing and the interface generally makes sense. the amount of information feels about right. the distinction between "defending" vs "controlling" a square was obscure, and i'm still not sure i get it fully. rooks and bishops are blocked by other pieces, which i had to figure out through trial and error. also i would appreciate a confirmation prompt before meta-analysis. overall i liked it a lot though!

Fantastic demo! Perfect optimization element without making it too stressful like "OMG how do I make this board perfect?!?!" Hope more content gets added :)

developer response: Thank you! Yes it will, the whole game is pretty much finished with the whole prestige tree that is currently locked. It will be released in the upcoming months.

This is an amazing concept for a game, I'm not really great at chess myself, but this is a great game anyway, mainly because I get to watch numbers go up.

Can you make it so where we can clear the board of pieces? It'd be way easier to come up with a good strategy to max the rice

I would love to see what setups people have come up with

Solution to the trick: make 63 others buy 1 field, then buy 1 field from them.

Cycle speed decreases in cost instead of rising so you but the most expensive one first then it slowly gets less expensive

People might not know that this is based on a famous ancient tale about a man who asked a king to be paid for something he had done in rice, one grain per square, doubling each time.

developer response: Exactly! This legend is more detailed in the intro cutscene of the final game

Coming back to this after getting the Steam version (only two bucks! what a deal!) I am struck by how handcrafted this feels, among the tide of AI and copies. Kudos to the dev!

developer response: Thank you so much! I missed this comment when you wrote it, but it feels really good to read! It was indeed an (extremely) complex journey of crafting, so I was really hoping it would resonate with at least a few people, looking for an incremental with deeper challenges especially.. I'm happy to see that in that regard it seems to be a success! Thank you for the support, I really appreciate

Replayed this after the bugfix. I like it a lot. It takes an "incremental" idea from history (the ancient "Wheat and chessboard problem") and makes a fun incremental with a mechanic that I think is completely novel - the adjustment of pieces. A really lovely combination of mechanic and theme. I'm looking forward to more.

developer response: Just noticed that you were also the one commenting after coming back from the steam version... Just so you know, this comment was also on my wallpaper to help me when things became too hard and I had trouble finding the willpower to keep working on the game, so thank you, you have no idea how helpful your comments were.

This is easily one of the best incremental games I've played in a long while. The optimization challenge is often incredibly difficult, but once you stumble on an optimal solution it immediately clicks as to why it's the best. I can't wait to see more of it!

developer response: Just wanted to say that you have no idea how impactful your comment was, and how it helped me in the process of finishing this game properly (you were on my wallpaper together with a few other comments here). Thank you so much.

Is the price of the "Cycle speed" upgrade meant to get cheaper as you buy more?

developer response: It is, you can read why in the comments on itch if you're curious ;)

Amazing game! This would surely be incredible as a full game!

developer response: Thank you, your comment (together with a few others here) has been on my desktop wallpaper until release to give me the willpower and help me finish this game properly, you have no idea how helpful it was.

The pawns boosting a knight seems to break the game when the "you can move your pieces anywhere" hint thing comes up

developer response: Edit : This bug is now fixed! Thanks a lot for the feedback!

Given x rice on an otherwise new save file on a modded version of this game with an infinite chessboard, what is the maximum possible production per cycle without a single cycle happening?

what are we supposed to do on the meta-analysis screen? i can't click continue, i can't click/dbl-click any of the options, i can't click and drag them

developer response: On the right, there are unlockable perks you can buy by hovering them and then paying the price that appears (1🔎)

Clicked meta-analysis, the game got locked, reloaded page to find out there's no progress saving. gg.

Don't click Meta-analysis, it freezes the game

developer response: Edit: This bug is now fixed! Thanks for the feedback
