Progress is really slow at the Space Portal, barely moved 20-30 ores-ish in a day. Any tips or does it really slow down that much?

what i wonder is if the pickaxe/spaceship scale their size with the upgrades, like is there just a galaxy sized spaceship destroying everything or is it just a tiny thing destroying the multiverse??
i feel bad for the people that get level 10 gem waster and get a dud when crafting a pickaxe
