description

Escape reality and defragment your Windows 98 PC.

Tips to get you started:

  • Defragment by placing light blue cells next to dark blue cells.
  • Allocate 16 memory cells to unlock a whole world of new gameplay elements!

Warning: There are no savegames! Reloading the page resets any progress, but the whole game can be finished in an hour :)

This open-source game was submitted to GitHub GameOff 2022. You can read and edit its code on GitHub.

Pretty basic idea, doesn't really have a whole lot of micro-management past the initial part, and after you automate almost anything it becomes a simple waiting game. I think the more annoying aspect has to be that we don't really get to understand how each thing works, so I can only guess that clicking buttons makes numbers go up :)

Overall, I give this a 2.5/5, round up to 3.

It's visually interesting, but it's a little hard to tell what's actually going on or what anything you're doing actually accomplished other than the defrag window, which quickly becomes automated. Eventually you're just sitting there staring at bars fill with no idea what any of it is doing. You see a button light up, you press it. You kill processes, you wonder what doing this accomplishes. I couldn't even figure out where to see your "currency". Very strange little game.

auto IP scan and hacking are actually cursed. I'm pretty sure most of the final timewall can be chalked up to those two tasks running intensive processes nonstop. there should be a way to turn off the automations

Bit of a timewall at the end, but complete the and there's a definite ending. Very fun brief game, neat ideas.

(Is there any harm in closing tasks? Not sure what was going on there.)

Nice game and a short one too, I liked it!
However, i look at these prefixes and my eyes bleed. 1e6 is Msomething, not msomething. 1e9 is Gsomething, not gsomething.
SI prefixes are standard, man!
