The fan-made remake and expansion of The Gold Factory -a text-based incremental RPG inspired by Candy Box and A Dark Room.
discordlatest update
i'm running out of ideas for hotfix names July 30, 2025
- Alerts are now fixed to the top of the screen instead to the top of the world.
- The suitcase no longer uses up your potions.
- The Confusion Potion now works properly while invulnerable.
- Switching your weapon no longer causes your offhand to be unequipped, unless it's the Maul.

Tested some builds for each weapon and here are some of the best results:
.
Spear: 2/1 ratio of hp enchantment to attack, Skill: invulnerability (prime importance of upgrading) Offhand: Proffesor's watch Or Shield (use shield when lower level. Description of build: works best if you want an afk experience and are really in far in the game (tested on wave 54 with level 20 hp and 10 attack, level 60 skill & proffessor's watch, took many minutes but you basically cant die for how fast you recover hp and with a full minute of not recieving dmg works really well.
Sword: 1/1 or 1/1.5 attack to hp ratio,Skill: invulnerability (prime importance of upgrading) Offhand: Shield Description of build: Extremely similar to spear only it is more balanced regarding dmg and speed, probably 1/1.5 ratio (hp/atk) works best really depends on your playstyle but this is mostly to not be in a fight for several minutes.
Axe: 1.5/1 atk/hp ratio Skill: invulnerability (on lower levels hp is more important to upg {levels 1-10}) Offhand: Shield Description of build:More dmg based tool, still best to use idle, still took several minutes to beat wave 54, for lower wave levels the strange switcase might work better.
Maul:2/1 atk/hp ratio Skill: (depends if for farming gold or farming waves lightning/invulnerability) Offhand: nothing description of build: strongest tool by far, beat wave 54 in 2 minutes more or less (surprisingly fast) usually best to use if you want active playing and not idle. Really great to use for gold farming.
.
(note that these were tested out with around 30mill gold available, for lower gold accesibility id suggest using sword 1 to 1 build)
developer response: Awesome analysis! I honestly didn't expect anyone to get that far into the endless waves. I personally like to use the Axe with the Watch, although I only took that up to wave 30. Thank you for playing!
my favorite feature is when i spam the chest the ghost is guarding lol
I really appreciate the hp rebalancement, i can now fight rats again without having to wait like 10 minutes for the fight to end  . Havent yet figured the exact function but most likely is a cuadratic or sum, idk. New weapons goes crazy, tho i dont like the idea of having to craft each of them again after changing one weapon after another. A cool addition i thought of is to add individual abilities to each weapon (upgradable) for example the maul to have a small % of stunning the enemy or the swordhaving a bleeding effect also a % of happening. Maybe add a limit to attack enchant or add a faster scaling in price, rn i have it at lvl 44 and it only costs 16million. same with abilities, i have them at level 50 and only costs 1.25 millions. The removal of popups is such a goated addition. Really nice update
developer response: Thank you! Cool ideas, I might do that or something similar. And yeah, the prices probably still need some rebalancing, especially when it comes to Invulnerability - that thing remains overpowered, no matter how much I nerf it.
If I knew the training robot would increase its health based on my own I would've milked it for as much attack as I could before increasing my health.
developer response: Fair point - I'm considering making the attack it gives you be proportional to health to avoid this issue.
also something i forgot in my previous comment but why the heck is the rat from the factory scaling to have thousands of hp??? its a rat yet it has more hp then the demon at the end of the nether portal
developer response: Rat HP is based on your own HP. Don't ask me how that works, these are just some really big rats.

FYI, if you buy the factory, you cannot decipher anymore afaik. So if you want these rewards, you might as well do them beforehand (or you could just cheat it in later if you missed it).
Code 1: MASTER BRANCH Hint: Num->Letter Reward: 100 gold
Code 2: There is a treasure hidden somewhere, it is located at a secret place in the Pacific Ocean Hint: Caesar Cipher Reward: 250 gold
Code 3: REGILDED Hint: Morse Code Reward: 5 Health Potions
Code 4: In a world full of blocks Hint: Shift every character left one position on the US keyboard Reward: 500 gold
Code 5: the other kind of dots Hint: Braille Reward: 50 iron
Code 6: The plant is famous because of the ability to cure some diseases Hint: Base64 Reward: 750 gold
Code 7: sinnesloschen Hint: Polybius Square Reward: 3 Poison Potions
Code 8: the gold factory was built long time ago, and it is the most famous gold factory in the world Hint: Rail Fence Cipher (I wasn't able to get it to work) Reward: 1000 gold
Code 9: PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT Hint 1: Base64 Hint 2: Morse Code Hint 3: Caesar Cipher Reward: Instant Cooldown Potion

Much thanks to the original dev for providing a list of these. I don't think I'd ever get code 8 without it.
developer response: Awesome guide! I really appreciate it. I have now changed it so that you can continue to decipher codes even after buying the factory, because having permanently missable content like that didn't feel right to me. I also made the hint for code 8 a bit clearer - you have to do it multiple times.
The iron mine doesn't seem to be working. I've got 100 machines saying I should gain 18 iron per minute, but nothing happens.
developer response: Thank you for reporting this - it seems that the countdown resets whenever you buy an iron mining machine, which is definitely not how it should work. This will be fixed in the next update. (EDIT - it should be fixed now, please let me know if you're still experiencing this issue!)
Kudos for revamping an old game!
I hadn't played the original so after finishing this one, I thought I'd give it a try. Wow, those are some really nice QoLs you added! Plenty of places you could work on if you wanted to make this more engaging, I had a few thoughts while playing.
Smaller ideas:
Some kind of separator in the bars/pizzas numbers, even a space would be better than nothing.
Invisibility potions - Need some use beyond the single fight you do once. Perhaps something like a 50% chance for the enemy to miss for a few seconds?
Either rename "poison potion" to "fire potion" or change the effect to a DoT, I wasn't sure they were working until I checked the potion page.
Nerf the gambler's potion. When you have like 1,000 max health it's so much better to use that when you're low instead of a health potion (couple with the invulnerability skill in case you roll badly, then you'll have time to use another potion). Maybe change it to a randomised health potion (e.g. between 1-100 health) or have a chance to gain or lose health (e.g. +200/-50)?
Some more skills? e.g. Berserk - double attack speed for X seconds, Vampirism/Absorption - Heal when attacking/Absorb damage for X seconds...
Is there a disc you can put in the computer? I never found one if so. Also slightly confused by the point of the button that BSoD's the PC but it is funny.
Much more involved ideas:
Improve on the Nether section by adding a fortress and the ability to buy a netherite sword/netherite armour (or make it). Could also be a place for different potion ingredients for more types of potions.
A use for the castle after you beat the zombie king. Maybe you could spend gold and iron bars to renovate various rooms in the castle, which would give you certain bonuses?
Maybe stick with the Minecraft theme a bit more and add The End after the Nether. After The End, you go to the castle in the sky and finish with the current ending?
developer response: Thank you for the feedback! I'll take what you said into consideration.
There is indeed a disc, but the way you get it is very strange and near impossible to figure out without looking into the code. It doesn't give you anything useful, though, it's just an easter egg and one of the weird things from the original game.
I'm stuck on code 8.
haven't played this game much yet, but it feels quite similar to candy box. seems interesting, will play more
