description

Summon the mighty power of gods in this fun incremental game about chopping down trees on a secluded island by using the forces of nature: earthquakes, sunbeams, tornadoes, hail, lightning strikes and tidal waves! It's Chopping Time!

I mixed the best elements of the next 3 games to make mine:
-> the gorgeous isometric style & ui from Keep on Mining.
-> the faster and explosive gameplay of 'A Game About Feeding A Back Hole' (with interest points to hover with the mouse to activate chain lightning, as well as the 5 other forces of nature in my game).
-> the beautiful style & animation in the skill tree from Shelldiver.

And on top of that, there is 10 tiny secondary game mode as well as leaderboards & achievements to bring even more diversity & challenge in the gameplay.

there are several upgrades in this game that scale something up.. in a way that makes it pointless t purchase the upgrade.

also i find the weird green trees disconcerting. is this an alien planet or something? trees are not green.. that's a sickly look.

i do like the music. i just wish the upgrades felt better.

To echo the "tree size increase is meaningless' point. The $1->$2->$3 size increase with a 1-2-3 hit point increase means that you have no net increase. It needs to be more like $1->$3->$6 or something to add value. I know its also designed to "stop trees running out" but at the same time, as a player Im "spending resources to improve" so the investment into any item needs to have a net benifit (maybe 1:2:3 level trees stays $1:$2:$3 but logs 1:3:9 or something - just something to give a perceived incremental improvement otherwise it feels like money for nothing).

developer response: I'll think about it a bit more again then. Maybe indeed I can add this like you said, to fake the feeling of gains after buying the skill to increase the tree size. And then I change the price of the other skills accordingly. So that when you buy the nodes, you instantly feel they are worth buying. But again this feeling of meaningless comes from the fact that at the moment where you buy the nodes, you don't have the damage to make it worth it. Once you one shot trees with a critical hit, or lightning strikes, or simply you hit & chop trees faster than what have the time to respawn, you're earning more than if it was just size 1.

Now that I rethink of it, I realize it's a feeling I wanted to give on purpose to the players. To make the players think when buying the first size 2 & 3 nodes, and realize it's not worth going down. Not worth because you might have not enough damage yet. And the damage, number of trees, respawn, etc, is all around on the left & right branch. If the size 2 & 3 were worth it on their on as you said, you'd wouldn't have to bother buying the rest of the bottom skill tree, you'd simply rush to get the blue tree asap, and then you could tell me the rest of the bottom skill tree (part left & right) are meaningless in that scenario. I tried to make the all skill tree make sense in that way. When you feel something is wrong, it's because a solution lies on a close side branch.

The initial impression is that this game is that is just a copycat game that doesn't really do anything new, there's a dime a dozen of games just like this that do exactly the same thing and although the lighting ability is cool and very flash that's all there's too it. I hope that the full game manages to somehow break this impression of the game feeling... boring perhaps? It's fun sure but in the demo there's nothing that would in my opinion allow this game to stand out in this already crowded genre.

developer response: I understand your point. Even Schwarzenegger back in his prime, surrounded by hundreds of bodybuilder nowadays, wouldn't look as good as back in the day. I've done my best to ensure the fullgame is as good as possible, adding secondary game modes, steam leaderboards, as well as a feeling of power that rises step by step, to make the game feel as best and diversified as I could. But it's indeed a big crowd already, so it's hard to stand out indeed. But as long as the game is good, cheap, pretty, etc, I guess there is always a place in the heart of many players to be conquer!

This is great! felt motivated to do another round throughout the demo, which was pretty cool. I couldnt quite figure out the circle radius, and the game escalated significantly once you unlocked lightning. Added it to wishlist.

developer response: Thank you very much! Reading this is motivating for me as well, that's what I want to read everyday till I die!

The tree size increases are completely worthless, no, they have negative value. If you one shot a bunch of smaller trees but you still need to hit the bigger tree you just lose a ton of efficiency for 1:1 rewards, a complete waste of time.

developer response: it may be harder to understand than I expected, but the size increase is meant to make you think about 3 things:
-> first, at some point you can clear the island of size 1 trees, pretty quick, and not many more trees will spawn back, so adding a size 2-3 is a way to have more trees in that regard. For example it's still 150 trees at the same time on island, but if they are all size 2, it's like having 300 trees of size 1.
-> second, it's also good to vary the way you play the game, because you need to turn around the big trees while also focusing the tiny one.
-> third, as you get down in the skill tree, you realize that it is harder and harder indeed, and you'll want more damage, which you can get in the other branch left and right of the tree size upgrades. If not damage, it's attack speed, but it is the same. All this is meant to make you think about the best strategy to go further down in the skill tree.

hope it helps see a bit better what I intended.

Done with the demo now, didn't take long.
1. The progression seems slightly wonky, but it's not too bad.
2. Like Hunkry said, the increased size of the tree is actually a massive debuff, and it definitely needs some reworking. Recommend going from a 1:1 on those nodes, to 1:2. Examples: Size 1 -> 2, Money & Logs 1 -> 4. Size 1 -> 3, Money & Logs 1 -> 9. Note: this does not need to be the exact adjustment, merely a suggestion.
3. Lightning is neat...

Fun simple concept. From what I'm seeing, it's not recognizing the wood inventory correctly - I have 500+ wood, but it's not letting me build anything with a far lower wood cost.

developer response: It's probably because of blue and green color. There is green wood logs, and blue logs, and some players can't see the difference, it's a a pretty rare color blindness but still. Maybe you don't neither see the green/red nodes/skills in the skill tree to tell you if you can buy or not. I've added a color blindness feature in the fullgame tho.
